The majority of people today are very much more health conscious than was the case even just a few short years ago. As a rule, people are more careful about what they eat and recognise the need to take light exercise on a regular basis. Sadly, knowing that you should do something and actually doing it can be two very different things.

It?s all too easy to succumb to the temptation of food that isn?t good for you. As a rule, junk food is cheaper, more readily available and, let?s be honest, tasty and tempting. Likewise, taking exercise can be something that is difficult to summon up the motivation for. A lot of people don't wish to visit the gym. They might be a little self conscious ? or they might just find it difficult to make the time. The idea of pounding the pavement in the cold and the rain can be equally unappealing.

These are just a few of the reasons why the home exercise market is so massive. Some people are happy to pay hundreds of dollars for home exercise equipment. Others, the majority in all probability, will tend to buy exercise DVDs and workout in front of the TV.

A fairly recent innovation in the home exercise market has been the Nintendo Wii ? or, more specifically, the Wii Fit program. This allows users to exercise and track their progress thanks to the Wii?s motion sensitive controller and the Wii balance board. It?s even possible to get a black Wii console these days ? which may well go better with the other electrical items in the family living room.

Exercising in the familiar surroundings of the family living room has many advantages. You can avoid the gym, there?s no need to get cold and damp and it should be easier for you to find time in your day ? remember, you will be saving not only the time for your workout but any travel time to and from the gym as well. However, you do need to exercise some self discipline and control to motivate yourself to exercise on a regular basis. Some form of progress tracking - whether it be the electronic method available on the Wii or something more simple such as a training journal can help out here.

If you do decide to invest in some training equipment ? be it an exercise bike, a treadmill or a Wii ? then be sure to get yourself good quality apparatus. The money saved on gym membership fees could mean that your equipment could be self financing.
